Cooperation Jackson: Building Economic Democracy
Jackson, Mississippi has become a noted hotbed of radical, municipal politics over the last decade. One of the leading organisations in this radical municipal experiment is Cooperation Jackson. Cooperation Jackson is an emerging vehicle for sustainable community development, collective ownership, and economic democracy in Jackson.
The mission of Cooperation Jackson is to build a solidarity economy anchored by a network of co-operatives and worker-owned, democratically self-managed enterprises and support systems and institutions. The organisation currently has a Community Land Trust that has over 40 parcels of land; an urban farming co-operative called Freedom Farms; a lawn care co-operative called The Green Team; and an emerging small-scale digital fabrication factory or Fab Lab, called the Community Production Cooperative.

Food
Your
booking includes training, accommodation, and breakfast, lunch,
self-catered dinners on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday (no dinner).
All food will be organic and mostly locally grown in Monkton Wyld
Court’s market garden, and other local farms.
Times
Arriving anytime on the morning of 21 May, Day One will start with lunch at 1pm. Departing Monkton Wyld Court on 23 May, the final session on Day Three closes at 4pm.
Facilitator
Kali Akuno is a co-founder and co-director of Cooperation Jackson.
He served as the Director of Special Projects and External Funding in
the Mayoral Administration of the late Chokwe Lumumba of Jackson, MS.
His focus in this role was supporting co-operative development, the introduction of eco-friendly and carbon reduction methods of operation, and the promotion of human rights and international relations for the city.
